Hey involving your dog, we went through something similar with our yellow lab and were about to spend $2700-$4800 depending on vet. ACL surgery is pricey. Our family friend who is a nurse now and used to be a vet told us to hold off on surgery and that it is a waste of money. S
Her recommendation was to half our dogs food for a month so that our dog loses about 10 pounds. It may sound cruel but she said by losing the weight your dog will be much less likely to injure the other leg. The other potential benefit is that the ACL may heal itself. In our dogs case it did. For a month only walk on leash so your dog can’t run and do further damage to leg. Only walk with leash for number 1 and 2 but no running. Bring your dog weight down 10lbs and see how things go. If no improvement, go to the doctor.
In our case our Dog had a full recovery, no surgery needed. I know you love your dog as family. Just thought I would share this life experience with a Good Soul. And maybe it can safe you some cash.
